This timeline includes critical dates for school election officials for the November 4, 2025 election. It does not contain all the steps in the election process because the county clerk and recorder will conduct most of the election procedures.
July 17, 2025
Resolution to Change Plan of Representation
Last day for the board to adopt a resolution to submit a proposal to change the school district plan of representation.

July 25, 2025*
Notification to the county clerk
Notify the county clerk in writing by this date that the school district will participate in the coordinated election. The board must take formal action prior to this date to participate in the coordinated election and to designate an election official.

August 6, 2025
Call for nominations
First day for the designated election official to publish a call for nominations for school director election. The call shall state which director offices will be voted upon at the election, where to obtain nominating petitions, the number of signatures required, and the deadline for submitting the nominating petition.

Nomination petitions
First day a candidate for the office of school director may circulate a nomination petition. No petition shall be circulated prior to this date.

Call for Nominations for School Board Directors - August 6, 2025
Summit School District RE-1 | Summit County, Colorado
The Summit School District in the County of Summit, State of Colorado, calls for nomination of candidates for school directors to be placed on the ballot for the regular biennial school election to be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
At this election, three directors will be elected as directors-at-large for a term of office of four years. To be qualified, a candidate must have been a registered elector of the school district for at least 12 consecutive months before the election. A person is ineligible to run for school director if he or she has been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child.
A person who desires to be a candidate for school director shall file a written notice of intention to be a candidate and a nomination petition signed by at least 50 eligible electors who are registered to vote in the regular biennial school election.
Nomination petitions may be obtained from Alex Dunning (District Designated Election Official) at the Summit School District RE-1 Central Administration office, 150 School Road, Frisco between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Last day for the designated election official to publish a call for nominations.

Intergovernmental agreement
Last day for the school district to sign an intergovernmental agreement with the county clerk to conduct the election in each county in which the school district is located.

August 29, 2025*
Nomination petition
Last day for school director candidates to file a nomination petition with circulators’ notarized affidavits, a notarized acceptance of nomination, and written notice of intent to be a candidate.

Write-in candidates
Last day for school director write-in candidate to file an affidavit of intent to be a candidate.

Candidate audio recording
Last day for a candidate to submit to the county clerk an audio recording of the pronunciation of his or her name exactly as it is provided in the candidate’s statement of intent.

September 2, 2025
Cancellation of the election
The election may be canceled if, at the close of business, there is no contest for any office, including candidates filing affidavits of intent to be a write-in. If instructed by resolution of the board of education, the designated election official may cancel the election and declare candidates to be elected.

September 5, 2025
Ballot order
Last day to establish arrangement of candidates’ names on the ballot by lot. The designated election official shall notify the candidates of the time and place of the lot drawing.

Certify ballot content
Last day for the designated election official to certify the content of the ballot to the county clerk. The ballot content shall include the name and office of each candidate and any ballot issue(s) to be voted on.

Online Posting of Candidate Information
Deadline for school districts with at least 1,000 pupils enrolled to post, in a “prominent area” on the district’s website, each candidate’s required contact information, organized alphabetically by candidate surname. Districts may link to the Secretary of State’s website.

October 15, 2025
Election notice
Last day for the designated election official or coordinated election official to publish notice of election in newspaper and mail a copy of notice to county clerks of counties where the school district is located.
C.R.S. §§ 1-5-205(1), (2).
Publication of an election notice by the county clerk satisfies this requirement. Sample ballots may be used if they contain all required information.

October 20, 2025
Board of canvassers
Last day to appoint the board of canvassers, in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement.
C.R.S. § 1-10-201(1).
November 4, 2025
ELECTION DAY
Polls open at 7 a.m. and remain open until 7 p.m., or until every eligible elector who was at the polling location at or before 7 p.m. has been allowed to vote.
C.R.S. § 1-7-101.
Eligible electors may apply for a replacement ballot under certain conditions (illness, religious observance, first responder, emergency). Requests must be submitted before 5 p.m. on Election Day; replacement ballots must be returned by 7 p.m.

November 26, 2025
Survey of returns
Last day for the canvass board to certify to the designated election official the official abstract of votes for the school district.
C.R.S. § 1-10-203(1).
If a majority of a canvass board in a county does not certify by this deadline, the Secretary of State reviews the abstract and may certify results.

Immediately following the preparation and certification of the final abstract of votes
Certificate of election
Immediately after certification, the designated election official shall notify candidates of their election and deliver the certificate of election.

December 5, 2025*
Oath of office
Candidate must take the oath of office no later than 10 days after receiving the certificate of election, or the seat is deemed vacant.

December 11, 2025
Organizational meeting
Within 15 days after receiving the official abstract of votes, the school board will hold an officer election and reorganization meeting.

Send names, addresses, length of term of office of each school director, and election/appointment dates of board officers to the Colorado Department of Education.
