Roy G. Crawford, Interim Superintendent of Schools

Welcome from Your Superintendent

Dear Summit Families & Staff,

It is with great pleasure that I write this message to the students, parents, staff and communities of the Summit County School District. I am energized and inspired by the newly adopted Strategic Plan, the International Baccalaureate Programmes offered throughout the District, the Dual Language Programs (will double check that they need/not to be caps) at Silverthorne and Dillon Valley Elementary Schools; and the District’s long standing progressive approach to education.

My 45 years in education includes:

  • Twenty five years in Maine as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent

  • Six Years in Manitou Springs, Colorado as superintendent

  • Nine years abroad as Head of School in IB World Schools in Germany, Malta and Cambodia

It has been a pleasure to work with SSD’s talented, dedicated and knowledgeable central office staff, school leaders, curriculum experts, teachers and staff.  It has also been wonderful and reassuring to meet and work with our school board, the local town managers and local elected officials and the county commissioners.  They have all been overwhelmingly supportive.

And finally, it was a joy to see the students of Summit County return to school in August 2021. Our staff is exuberant and the children are equally excited to be back in school full time.

Thank all of you for your warm welcome. I look forward to moving SSD forward for the benefit of our children!

Roy G. Crawford
