Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Summit Schools! Sharing your time and talents enriches the educational experience for our students, provides additional support to teachers and staff and promotes positive school/community partnerships. Our district and school staff know your time is precious and appreciate your sharing it with us.

What Opportunities are there to Get Involved?

When families, educators, and community members come together, we build powerful learning experiences for every child. Whether you're new to Summit or a long-time supporter, there are many ways to make a difference in our schools.

2026-27 Leadership Summit Academy
The Leadership Summit Academy is your front-row seat to understanding how our district operates—and how you can help shape its future. Open to new and returning members, this six-session series connects parents, caregivers, and community members with district leaders to dive into the heart of Summit's mission and priorities. Explore key topics like public education advocacy, instructional philosophy, and strategic planning while building community and leadership skills.

District Accountability Committee (DAC)
The DAC gives families and community members a formal voice in shaping district priorities. As a volunteer committee, DAC reviews improvement plans, budget priorities, and parent engagement strategies. No experience needed—just your insights and dedication to student success.
DAC reviews district performance data, identifies root causes, and helps guide continuous improvement. You’ll help ensure academic and equity goals are met and that every student thrives.

School Accountability Committee (SAC)
Every school in Summit has its own School Accountability Committee, working alongside principals to review school performance and recommend improvements. SAC members help shape school goals, budgets, and programs. Your input ensures decisions reflect the values and needs of each unique school community.

La Consejo de Familias Hispanas es una invitación especial del Superintendente Dr. Tony Byrd para que las familias de habla hispana se reúnan, compartan ideas y construyan una comunidad escolar más inclusiva. PTSA – Parent Teacher Student Association
Joining your school’s PTSA is a simple, impactful way to support our students and staff. From hosting school events to funding classroom grants, PTSAs build stronger, more connected school communities. Annual dues are tax-deductible and support programs that enrich student learning. Whether or not you can attend meetings, your voice and ideas are always welcome.

Every minute you spend volunteering—whether reading with students, chaperoning a field trip, or assisting in the front office—adds extraordinary value to our schools. FAQ

What is the process to start volunteering?

We have updated the process to streamline the application for better reporting requirements and make it as easy as possible for volunteers to submit the proper documentation.

Application instructions:

Talk with your school secretary about upcoming volunteer opportunities
Complete the Volunteer Application (https://bit.ly/SSDVolunteerApplication). This application will only need to be submitted once and will be valid for all upcoming school years.
Once your Volunteer Application has been received, your school secretary will send you the Background Check information.
Once the Background Check is approved, you are welcome to volunteer in any Summit school.

Please note, there is a Background Check fee due at the time of submission. Approved background screenings are valid for 12 months, at which time they will need to be renewed.

Why Background Check?

Colorado legislation has prompted a greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. Therefore, beginning January 2022, we must ensure that every volunteer completes a brief application and background check prior to volunteering for activities in SSD schools. The good news is you only need to complete the background check once per school year, and it will meet the requirement to volunteer in all SSD buildings.

The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. Every person entering our buildings must have a District ID or a badge printed from the Raptor System.

How to stay informed of Volunteer Opportunities?

From the classroom to the library to the lunchroom, there are many volunteer opportunities at every school. If you are interested in volunteering at a particular school, please contact that school directly. Our schools know best where they need volunteers.
