SSD has a high cost of living Colorado–second only to Aspen. Thus, it’s not surprising that SSD sees a high turnover rate, which negatively impacts our student learning experience. There is a general shortage of housing, and what’s available is largely out of reach for SSD staff. The 2023 Summit County Housing Needs Assessment found that the price of a single family detached home has risen by 86% since 2018. As of 2022, the down payment needed to buy a single family detached home was $383,000. In Spring 2023, 15% of renters in the county could afford the cost of units listed for rent.
