Be Part of Summit School District’s Master Planning Journey

Master Planning Update – Be Part of the Process

As the golden aspens give way to snow-dusted peaks, we’re reminded how quickly seasons change—and how important it is to prepare for what’s ahead. In the same way, Summit School District is preparing for the future through a Facilities Master Plan Update. This process will help us align facilities, enrollment, finances, and programs with the needs of today and tomorrow. The Community Committee is an opportunity to help shape the future of our schools—join us and share your input!  RSVP here

Why Master Planning?

Summit School District has a long tradition of responsible stewardship. Through Facilities Master Planning, we align our facilities, enrollment, finances, and academic priorities so that we can meet student needs today while preparing for tomorrow. This process also responds directly to community feedback that called for greater transparency and more opportunities for involvement following the recent bond process.

What Will Be Examined

The Facilities Master Plan will take a holistic look at district needs, including:

Facilities & Infrastructure: Addressing building deficiencies, ensuring safe, modernized learning environments, and supporting athletics and extracurricular activities.

Programmatic Needs: Updating instructional spaces and specialized areas that prepare students for future-ready pathways and hands-on learning.

Enrollment Trends: Declining enrollment, especially in smaller schools, raises questions about sustainability and program consistency. As part of this discussion, many scenarios were considered, and four potential consolidation options are currently under review:

  • Breckenridge Elementary with Upper Blue Elementary
  • Frisco Elementary with Summit Cove Elementary
  • Frisco Elementary with Upper Blue Elementary
  • Summit Cove Elementary with Silverthorne and Dillon Valley Elementaries

These are starting points for community discussion, not final decisions. We will work together to balance what we value as a community with what is sustainable for the long term.

Financial & Operational Sustainability: Considering state funding pressures and local enrollment declines while ensuring we responsibly steward community resources for long-term stability.
