Congratulations Graduates

As I reflect on this week and last night’s Snowy Peaks graduation, I keep coming back to one word: proud.

I am proud of the deep learning reflected in the 5th-grade capstone presentations across our elementary schools. Proud of the dedication our teachers, support staff, administrators, and district team bring to students every single day. Proud of the unique opportunities available to students across Summit School District. And tonight, I am especially proud of our graduates.

During the Snowy Peaks graduation ceremony, I found myself taking notes as students and staff shared reflections and lessons they had learned along their journey. Their words captured the resilience, kindness, and growth we hope every student develops during their time with us.

A few that stood out:

“Everything is a win if the goal is the experience.” — Iris

“Make it a goal to do one kind act every day… be selfish by being kind.” — Lily

“Growth doesn’t always happen in the big moments.” — Megan Heflin

Those words remind us that education is about much more than grades or diplomas. It is about developing character, learning from experiences, building relationships, and discovering who we are.

Across Summit School District, students are ending the year by showcasing their learning through capstones, presentations, projects, performances, and reflections. This week, I had the opportunity to see outstanding capstone work from students at Upper Blue Elementary, Summit Cove Elementary, and Silverthorne Elementary. Their creativity, communication skills, research, and passion were inspiring. These projects are powerful examples of authentic learning and demonstrate the future-ready skills outlined in our Graduate Profile.

As we close the 2025–26 school year, I am filled with gratitude for the students, staff, families, community members, and partners who make Summit School District such a remarkable place to learn, grow, and belong. This year reminded us what is possible when a community rallies around its young people.

Over the past four years, Summit School District has made meaningful progress. Today, eight of our nine schools are rated at the state’s highest performance level, and our district is rated in Colorado’s highest accreditation category. Moving forward, we remain focused on literacy, mathematics, and creating engaging learning experiences that prepare students for success in college, careers, and life.

The Class of 2026 earned nearly 4,765 college credits through our partnership with Colorado Mountain College while pursuing industry certifications, career pathways, military service opportunities, technical training, and higher education goals. Their accomplishments remind us that success looks different for every student and every pathway deserves celebration.

Throughout the district, students have demonstrated resilience, leadership, creativity, critical thinking, and a sense of purpose. From elementary capstones to middle school reflections, from freshman community projects to senior capstones and graduation speeches, our students continue to show what is possible when they are challenged, supported, and inspired.

This year also included important conversations about the future of our schools. While those discussions have not always been easy, they have reinforced something I deeply believe: Summit County cares profoundly about its children and its schools. Even in difficult moments, this community continues to show up with thoughtfulness, partnership, and a commitment to doing what is best for students.

As we celebrate our graduates and the close of another successful school year, I want to thank every student, family, staff member, volunteer, and community partner who contributes to the success of students.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026, our Snowy Peaks and Summit High School graduates, and every student moving on to their next chapter.
